Semra Ertan (1959-1992) was a Turkish-German poet and activist whose work focused on identity, displacement, and the struggles of immigrant women. Born in Turkey, she moved to Germany, where she wrote powerful poetry that combined personal experiences with political critique. Tragically, Ertan died by suicide in 1992, a loss that underscored the intense struggles she faced as a migrant and a woman. Her literary legacy continues to inspire discussions on gender, migration, and workers' rights.
On May 1, 2023, I shared some of Ertan's poems on Instagram, presenting them through sensitive graphic design to highlight her story and draw attention to the challenges faced by the working class.
